Debbie Tablotney has resided in Richmond for the past 32 years. She was first elected to the Richmond Board of Education in 2002 and has served for 3 terms as Trustee. She has a long history of commitment to her school district and community. In the 1990’s she not only helped found a child disability parent support group and a neighborhood watch but found time to serve for 4 years as the PAC Chair of Westwind Elementary among her many community activities.
During her 3 terms Debbie has served as Vice-Chair of the Board of Education, chair of the Personnel and Finance Committee, Policy Committee and Vice Chair of the Audit Committee as well as being a fixture for many years as the Board’s Provincial Councilor to BCSTA. She has served as Chair of the Education Committee, Council Board Liaison Committee and has been the Board’s representative to the Sister City Committee. Through her involvement in the Richmond Sunrise Rotary she has been working to increase high school student participation in Rotary Interact clubs and has worked tirelessly at sending Richmond school students on Rotary sponsored trips and events.
Debbie has always been actively involved in her community having served on the Board of Directors as Treasurer for Richmond Family Place, Scouts, Richmond District Parents Association, Richmond Youth Concert Band and Richmond Toastmasters. She also manages to find time to raise funds for cancer research by participating in such events as the “Underwear Affair” and the 240 KM “Ride to Conquer Cancer” and runs half marathon’s for charities such as “Habitat for Humanity” and climbing the Grouse Grind to support Children’s Hospital.
She has attended the same church for 30 years and during that time has served on her Church Council and still regularly teaches Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Other community activities she has been involved include the Rick Hansen’s “Man in Motion” Committee and McNeill’s “Dry Grad” Committee. Her long standing service to Richmond earned her nominations for Richmond’s Volunteer of the Year in 2007 and Ethel Tibbet’s in 2009.
In her spare time Debbie loves to bike, hike and run half marathons. When she isn’t doing school board activities she can be found managing the books for her family owned insurance brokerage. She has three sons, all of whom attended school in Richmond.
