Grace and her husband live in Richmond with a daughter currently attending UBC and a son currently attending Hugh Boyd Secondary School. She was first elected to the Board of Education (Richmond) in 2005. Grace currently serves as Chair, Audit Committee, Vice Chair, Personnel & Finance Committee, and as the Board’s representative to the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority and B.C. Public Schools Employers’ Association. In the past, she has served in the following capacities:
- Representative on the District’s Fine Arts Committee
- Member of the Sister City and Child Care Development Advisory Committees
- Vice Chair and Chair for the Education Committee
- Chair for the Personnel & Finance Committee
- Member of the British Columbia Teachers’ Federation/British Columbia School Trustees Association Insurance Committee.
Grace is a Certified Financial Planner. She obtained a Bachelor Degree in Arts, majoring in Economics, from the University of British Columbia, and a Diploma in Marketing Management Technology from British Columbia Institute of Technology. Grace encourages students to participate in extra-curricular activities, as she believes that this would strengthen their growth and development both physically and emotionally. Grace immigrated to Canada as a teenager, and sees herself “forming a bridge” between the immigrant community and the Richmond School Board.
Grace’s volunteer experience with the Richmond School District includes: school fundraiser, secondary school badminton coach, early warning, friendship club, and volunteer interpreter (information exchange conferences) and dry grad committee member. In addition, Grace has also volunteered on the Planned Giving Committee of the Mount St. Joseph Hospital Foundation (1996-1998), and has been Director, BCIT Alumni Association (1993-1995).
Grace is an active member of the Richmond Sunset Rotary Club where she has served as Director (2009-2010). She is a recipient of Paul Harris Fellow (Rotary International) in 2008 and 2010. She currently serves as Director of the Richmond Youth Concert Band Association where she has been Vice President for the past six years.
